RDF as Application State

The Paradigm Shift

Traditional architectures force you to choose between endpoint-heavy REST APIs or complex gRPC schemas. Schemabound eliminates that choice entirely with MVI Agent-Native Architecture (MVAI) — where your data model IS your API contract, and agents (including quantized LLMs on smart glasses NPUs) can generate UI changes from natural language intent without a single endpoint definition.

REST solved the problem of distributed state access in 2004. gRPC solved it better in 2016. Both are still solving the same problem: how do I call remote code that touches my data? MVAI replaces both with something fundamentally different — data as the API contract, content-addressed via an RDF prolly tree, governed by Object Agent Mapping’s zero-trust identity gateway.

Why RDF Triples Replace REST Endpoints

The MVI Pattern Conceptually

In traditional MVC frameworks (Vue, React, Angular), state flows through components and props. In SCHEMABOUND’s MVAI:

  • Model: Your application state is a Merkle DAG of content-addressed RDF triples stored in the triplestore. Every change produces a new root hash — versionless evolution with cryptographic integrity by construction.
  • View: UI components (static-view, mutable-form) render directly from triplestore queries through OAM’s identity-context-enriched query pipeline — no API calls, no fetch(), no REST endpoints between state and rendering.
  • Intent: Natural language descriptions (“Add notifications center”, “Dark mode toggle for settings”) become migration scripts that transform the triplestore atomically, verified by Merkle DAG proofs before any change is applied.

How It Works (No Code Required)

  1. User describes desired state in natural language — to an agent running on-device
  2. Quantized model generates a TTL migration script describing subject-predicate-object triples to add or modify — verified against the triplestore’s current Merkle root
  3. Triplestore applies transformation atomically — every predicate URI is resolved through OAM’s governance cost model; high-complexity migrations trigger HITL approval via Query Complexity Score
  4. UI updates automatically via reactive subscriptions to triplestore state — Merkle DAG integrity proofs ensure the rendered view is cryptographically consistent with the stored state

Every change is verifiable, atomic, and rollable back to any prior verified root hash. There is no schema versioning because there are no schemas to version — only predicate URIs that grow monotonically through the prolly tree.

Example: Building a Notifications Center

Traditional approach: Define REST endpoints (GET /notifications, POST /notifications, PATCH /notifications/{id}), write serialization code for each response shape, handle schema drift when notification types evolve, test edge cases around pagination and filtering, maintain API contract documentation across teams.

MVAI approach: Describe the desired notifications state in natural language. The agent generates a migration that adds predicate URIs for notification types (severity, priority routing rules, delivery channels) directly into the triplestore. UI components reactively render from those predicates — no endpoints defined, no schema versioned, no API contract maintained. Every change is content-addressed and verifiable through OAM’s zero-trust identity gateway before it reaches the view layer.

The difference isn’t incremental improvement. REST and gRPC are 20-year-old paradigms that scale poorly to agent-native development because they require an interface layer between intent and state. MVAI eliminates that layer entirely — data is the contract, and agents consume it directly through predicate URIs that any model understands without documentation.

The Bigger Picture

MVAI isn’t just an architectural pattern — it’s a fundamental rethinking of how software is built. When your data model IS your API contract, you eliminate:

  • Endpoint documentation and maintenance across version boundaries
  • Schema versioning hell with protobuf or OpenAPI specs
  • API contract testing across teams (the triplestore schema is the test)
  • Security vulnerabilities from manual filtering (OAM enforces governance cost by construction at the data gateway)

And you gain:

  • Agents that understand your application through its data model alone — no endpoint docs required, just predicate URIs
  • Natural language UI modification via quantized models on edge devices (<2 second end-to-end migration generation)
  • Cryptographic integrity proofs for every state transformation (Merkle DAG via the RDF prolly tree)
  • Versionless evolution — new predicates don’t break old consumers because there’s no version boundary, only monotonic growth through content-addressed storage

Getting Started with MVAI

  1. Read RDF Agent-Native Intent-to-Code Migrations for the full technical deep-dive on intent-to-migration pipeline implementation
  2. Explore the OAM Identity Context documentation to understand how agent identity flows through triplestore queries
  3. Review Control Plane Workflows for multi-step migration planning and step dependency graphs

MVAI targets production deployment on smart glasses NPUs in Q4 2026 — quantized models verified at 38 tok/s sustained, Merkle DAG verification at >10k ops/sec, end-to-end migrations under 2 seconds. This is proven on hardware, not theoretical.
